A gate is in between; in between inside and outside, here and there, now and then. A gate is a passageway; both an entrance and an exit, and a point where paths cross. So is the project |˟˟|, pronounced 'Gate'. Tokyo-based, but founded by a Dutchman, and because of that, to some extent in between East and West. In between noise, free jazz, drone, ambient, industrial, Japanese traditional music, and many more. In between convention and invention when it comes to the instruments and electronics used - some are more or less conventional (or even traditional), while others are designed and built especially for the project. In between solo (on most releases) and collaboration (on 'Iterations'). In between completely free improvisation (on most releases) and extensive digital manipulation (on the album 'Deconstructed'). And in between discomfort and resignation.
